Three years back, I watched a senior director get blindsided.

Twenty-two years in financial services. Smart. Experienced. Checked every professional development box the company offered.
He still didn't see the reorganization coming.
Didn't read the signals in the months before. Didn't catch the manipulation language his new manager used in every meeting. Walked into his performance review expecting a promotion.

Workplace savvy is not a soft skill category.
It shares more DNA with combat training, threat prediction, and street survival than with any MBA curriculum. A martial arts philosopher, a street-survival strategist, and a professional threat assessor all reached the same destination from different directions.
